Integrated multimedia solutions = results

News Canada believes in results –– it's the core value we offer our clients. The fully integrated multimedia solutions that we provide clients today gives them the opportunity to effectively deliver on their public relations campaigns and content marketing strategies. Our clients stories receive earned media coverage allowing their business to compete effectively in the market and maximize exposure for their products and services across Canada.

In the beginning

A journalist graduate from Ryerson University, Toronto, Ontario, Paul Aunger, established News Canada in the summer of 1981. Aunger saw a need to create a service to provide editorial articles to print publications across Canada. His partner, Rick Smith was an Economics graduate from York University in Toronto, with an honorary degree in accounting from the University of Windsor, and also studied in the MBA and CPA programs at the University of Toronto.

In 1997, MDC Inc. (now MDC Partners), a large publicly traded Canadian company, purchased News Canada and began to incorporate the multimedia technologies available at the time to bring the company up to par with other publishing businesses. It is at this point that Ruth Douglas enters the picture. Ruth was installed as the President of News Canada and was given the mandate to grow the company.

In step with the times News Canada added a new form of distribution –CD-ROM. Gone were the days of cutting and pasting from a hard copy. Soon after, with the advent of the Internet, News Canada moved quickly to begin distributing client's articles to editors via the www.newscanada.com site. Editors and publishers across the country could access News Canada content at any time.

During that time, News Canada saw a need for clients to reach out to the broadcast media. Its flourishing print service formula was successfully transferring to its, then newly launched, television and radio service.

It was at this point that the company began to offer its clients a "guaranteed audience" with its services. This guarantee offered clients valuable return on their media investment.

Ruth Douglas purchases the company

In 2002, current CEO and President, Ruth Douglas, believed very passionately in News Canada and the value that it's services offered to the PR and marketing industries. Convincing MDC to let her take over the reigns – she bought the company.

With new ownership and the increasing growth of the Internet, it was a natural progression for the company to offer a web service to web editors at this point in time. In keeping with the innovations in emerging technologies, News Canada launched an online video service. Offering not only mass distribution to websites and portals across Canada, but high quality production as well.

In 2011, News Canada celebrated its anniversary; 30 years of providing unique and effective media solutions to its clients and content solutions to the media.
